Monitoring the status of our bluebirds in South Carolina is an essential function of the South Carolina Bluebird Society (SCBS). The decline in population of the Eastern Bluebird in the late 1970s prompted action to learn how to save our bluebird friends. Our volunteers monitor nestboxes and gather data throughout the state of South Carolina, and a few in Georgia & North Carolina. This data will alert us to any future problems sothat  decisive action can be undertaken. In most instances, trails are monitored weekly, from March through the end of August. This happens through the dedicated efforts of our volunteer trail monitors. When you see a monitor checking your nestbox, say Hi as they are probably one of your neighbors.

Nothing is more rewarding than watching the cycle of life in the nestbox, from nest building to egg laying, to nestlings growing and ultimately fledging in about 2 months. Such monitoring provides emotional rewards that far outweigh any minor inconveniences encountered. Come join us! We will train you for this rewarding experience.
